Pipped on the wrong end at least 14 hours ago.

I’m worried about the other pipper who has poked through on the correct end. If I open it up I’m worried it will get dried out and not make it. Then I potentially have 2 dead chicks.

It’s not really cheeping anymore. It’s still has its beak poked out but it’s not moving a ton.
I'm so sorry. You can always give them a little air and space to check, but you haven't done anything to hurt them. If that perks them up, keep going. I used coconut oil on a q-tip so it stayed "wet" longer than water. They wouldn't have made it this long in a coop. Hugs!

My last hatch I had a little one who pipped and was quite noisy and active, but didn't progress at all. At around the 24 hour mark there was so no progress, and she was moving/chirping considerably less. I decided to help and found that the poor thing was unable to move inside because the membrane had died out too much. The chick did well and is perfectly healthy 11 weeks later. That said, she was the final egg in our incubator so I did not have to weigh her life against another chick's.

Ultimately it is your choice. There is a chance that the other pipped chick may have trouble if the humidity drops too low. It is not an easy decision. If you decide to assist, do what you can to mitigate humidity loss in the incubator, but keep an eye on that second chick just in case they end up stuck as well. Good luck and keep us updated!

Any update?
Sorry, I started a new thread out of desperation. I will try and link it later for you. Spoiler - the chick is doing great!! The assist went smoothly with no hiccups I think. Although this was literally the first chick I have ever hatched out.
