Pipping confusion

Pics
That's a really cool video! Something about that ducky's flip looked very different from what I've seen with this bunch. I'm not 100% sure though. Maybe these guys have pipped and attempted to zip at the top of the air cell? A couple had a foot above their head. Almost across their forehead.

I guess it doesn't matter why they're getting stuck. It would be nice to know if I could prevent it but I'm not sure that's totally possible. It seems like it's always somewhat possible for something to go weird. Even though only 2 of these 8 got out without any help, they're all seem happy and healthy so far. And I've never had to take one all the way out of it's shell yet. After giving a bit of assistance with taking some shell off or snipping a tight/dry membrane, I put them back in the incubator to finish getting out on their own.

They could've been malpositioned I guess. .
Did you hand turn or use a Turner?

I've been hand turning since the rescue Pekins came in. I don't trust my memory so I extra dummy mark them with an "L" and arrow pointing left on one side and "R" and arrow pointing right on the other to make sure I remember which direction to turn them next time. I put shelf liner, the foam kind of feeling stuff with holes in it, on the tray thinking it would help keep the eggs from rolling around as much after someone hatches and is flipping around like a flopasaurus Rex. They still knock eggs around a lot so I've been a mean ducky mom and don't let them stay in the incubator too long. They probably get moved into their brooder apartment with extra heat a little earlier than they should. Maybe I've just been lucky so far but they fluff up fine in there.

"Flopasaurus rex"
:lau:lau:lau:lau
Well. . sounds like you done everything right.

Deggster refuses to cooperate with getting his picture taken. He's still a pretty angry little duckling. The blurriness is from him bouncing as he's biting me. My hubs says this guy is a little psycho...hence Deggster (Dexter).

Eggna just hatched Wednesday evening so she was still in the brooder apartment yesterday, too small to hang out in the bathroom while I changed the brooder bedding but was crying about being alone. Down my shirt seemed like the easiest place to put her for the couple minutes I needed my hands. She wiggled her head over, made a duckling "Baby Bjorn" and fell asleep.

I had 5 more ducklings hatch so far today. One Pekin and 4 from the Cayuga/Khaki/Rouen flock. I'm super impressed with this Pekin. I've kind of been expecting him not to make it because some flopasaurus baby knocked this guy across the brooder early last week and he got a hairline crack in his shell but I didn't want to take him out because I could still see him moving. Every time I checked him I expected to not see movement but then he'd move a little. Anyway. Thursday afternoon I could hear him tapping but didn't see anything at all in the air cell. Not even a wiggle. By Friday I could tell he was tapping near the small end of the shell but didn't see any mark yet. Then Friday night he had a little hole pipped way up in the small end of the shell. Yesterday I picked a tiny bit of shell off around his pip to try to peek in, and he started peeping extra loud. I made sure to keep his membrane lightly oiled but mostly left him alone. This morning two of the dark ducklings hatched. One was out before I woke up, the other waited until after my coffee and hatched himself out while I was watching. First time I actually got to watch one push his little shell cap off and flop out on its own. So stinking cool! Anyway, "Humpty Dumpty" egg still looks pretty much the same. Just a small hole in the small end of the shell. Then a little while ago (about 4 or 5 hrs after the last baby got moved to the brooder apartment) I heard LOUD peeping from the incubator. I expected it to be more of the dark ducklings since they were working around their air cell like "normal" babies. Boy was I surprised to see Humpty Dumpty's little yellow face pop up and look at me through the incubator window! Maybe that hairline crack helped him open the shell easier!
The two air cell end dark ducklings hatched shortly after Humpty. Now I have one of he dark ducklings who popped at the wrong end (also very close to the small end) and my last rescue Pekin egg has pipped externally in the air cell. The wrong end dark duckling was pipped externally yesterday morning. Hasn't made much progress but I figure that's probably mostly because he's coming out the wrong end, the stuff about needing more time to absorb and all right? I'm a tiny bit concerned with him though because I could see his little black bill near the pip hole yesterday and he was peeping a lot, and loudly. He's not peeping as much now, hopefully just resting, but I can't really see his bill anymore either. He wouldn't pip and then turn his bill away from the hole to the point that he blocks his air would he? I don't want to help him out too soon but I also don't want to risk losing him. So far, since Eggwyn pipped on 7/28, I've had 15 (I think...maybe 16) ducklings pip and hatch and are all looking great. I'd hate to lose one now just because I want to make him wait longer. If I do help, it's ok to open his shell enough to find his beak again right? Assuming I don't find any veins that is. I'd dab the membrane with coconut oil before opening it at all since coconut oil makes the veins show up so well. I've helped others and don't really have an issue with that. I'm mostly just confused/concerned about why I can't see this guy's beak anymore.

Yes, it is possible that he may have turned to try and zip and blocked his air supply.
Hopefully not . .but if it seems to be getting weak I would go ahead and explore for the bill again.
I'm currently dealing with the same issue with some turkey eggs :barnie
