Pipping early

5 have fully hatched and look healthy so far. Another 3 have pipped and 4 others I can't tell.

The humidity is around 70% at the moment. I couldn't get it above 60% using normal methods so I added hotter water using a straw through the vent hole and a funnel. That way I didn't have to open it but the humidity quickly went up to just over 70%.
That's good, try to keep it around 70. Congrats on your babies!

Thanks, keeping at 70% is difficult at the moment. I could do with removing some of the water now to add warmer water but I don't really want to open it.

I've ended up having to open it quickly earlier to take the 7 hatched chicks out as they were getting too feisty and have smashed the side of one of the eggs. I've put them in the brooder and sealed it all up again, I added warm water at the time and it went straight back to just over 70% but now it is dropping back towards 60%. Two of the remaining eggs are showing some signs of movement. IMG_20200704_184842.jpg

Any water that's currently in there is pretty warm anyway. It should be fine. Good call taking out the hatched ones. They do get rowdy. Glad your last 2 are still alive! Hopefully they hatch soon. Neither of them are externally pipped yet?

One of the remaining ones has now hatched, so we now have 8. There are still four more after that. One of them is the smashed one. I've not seen that one move. One has a straight line crack in it and keeps moving a little bit (looks like a bad pip). The other two aren't showing any signs of movement or pipping. Will try and transfer the single chick before I go to bed and then see what has happened by morning IMG-20200704-WA0027.jpg

Oh, ok. If you have a point where none have external pips, I'd open and do a quick candle. Cute babies!!! ❤

The one with the straight line crack in it suddenly hatched.

That gives 9 chicks now, and three remaining eggs. None of the remaining eggs look to have pipped but one has the damaged side that the chicks managed to do earlier. None of these three seem to be moving about at all.

As there are now two chicks in the incubator, I'll leave them until morning and then transfer them to the brooder box.

I'll see what has happened with the final three eggs at that point.

These 9 have all been born today which I make 2 days early. I set them on a Sunday and they've hatched on a Saturday. I was expecting Monday. As suggested maybe I'm running slightly too warm in the incubator.

Wow! I'd candle quick then.

Ended with 9. The other three looked like they had developed part way.
