They started pipping ( ducklings ) on day 26 or two days ago. 8 by then and 14 by yesterday. This morning, only one appears to have progressed. 22 eggs in total. What do I do???????????????

this is day 28, they started pipping on day 26 and 27. I have followed the "rules" set by the incubator combined with Metzer farms direction. So, when candled on the 25, there were 21 viable moving chicks. It has been 55% and 99+ until lockdown and now it is at 98+ and 64-69%. I did have to pop it open yesterday for a literal second to pour more water in the resevoir as it had gone dry and the humidity was dropping down to 60%. Within seconds of pouring it in, the humidity and temp were still all constant (humidity higher actually) and so there was no shock involved in that process. It is a hovabator with circulating air fan. There is one that is actively trying to get out, but, the majority looked as they have 24-36 hours ago......

OK, you did everthing right..

in the future, use a piece of tubing through one of the plug holes to add water.. I taped a piece of tubing to a small funnel for this procedure.. I add hot water, not boiling, the temp and hum% raise temporarily but settle back quickly..

I jlust had a similar situation with some chicken eggs.. I just waited them out.. they came a day after the due date.. but now they are popping out like popcorn..

what kind of ducks ? not pertinant to the problem, just nosey on my part..

I have only muscovy ducks..

sometimes they are just absorbing the yolk and then they take awhile..

I have had geese pull that same trick on me..

I would maybe take a sample egg and sacrifice it to see what is up ?? that is me.. you do what you feel is comfortable..

That is a great idea with the tubing! I will set that up in the other incubator that I have going only on day 8. They are Pekins and, although we have 50 ducks, this is the first time that we have incubated so I am so excited, but, it is nerve=wracking. The problem that I have, especially this other incubator (the day 8 one) is that I am having a hard time controlling the temp. Plus, they say 99.5 and it is impossible to find a thermometer that does the .5....

I like Hovas .. I have both Hova and LG and sportsmans..

what I do with the styrofoam ones is tape all around the seal, where the top sets on the bottom, with duct tape..

I have auto turners.... If you do not have auto turners, just prop one side up on a board or a couple of books about 3 inches high.then alternate from side to side to turn the eggs..

OK so I took advice from someone earlier on this or another post, I can't remember, but, I cranked the heat and the shower and brought a humidistat in with me in the bathroom...took the crew/incubator in there and am SO glad that I helped that one out. I also cracked a little bit around the pip for the three others that seem to be a bit behind. I left them in as you could see the blood vessels still right up around them, but, this way they could move a bit forward. That little one screamed until I enabled it to pop out. It was a different type of noise than yesterday's chirp and as soon as it was able to get out, it stopped. I don't believe it would have made it out if I didn't help. I also believe that that noise it made would be made to its mother! I could tell the difference, I swear. Sounds crazy, I know! Anyway, he/she is out. BOY>>>THIS IS NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART! After I was done....my knees were SO WOBBLY! I am going to post this on another thread that I have going somewhere for the other person who asked. Take care all!
