Yes, I agree, especially the ones near the house and coop need to go. I tried researching if I am even allowed to trap them, but don't really want to ask some locally as it's a small town and I'd hate to draw attention, and haven't gotten a clear answer. Now that they are all coming out for summer it's got me thinking traps again. That's funny that you mentioned the hose, I definitely send a lot of water down the holes when i water the garden.
I can't imagine they are 'protected' or there's a 'season'.... just SSS.
Quick google confirmed my suspicion.... 'Nuisance'.

Yeah... I found this from CPW

Which is better info than I managed to find in the past. I think that since I have "livestock" now I can pretty much do as I see fit. I wonder if something like this would work...

They are so smart it makes it tricky. I saw something on a nature show about how they have one of the most complex animal languages and warning systems of all animals. Also their tunnels go for miles so if they are suspicious of an entrance/exit they will just use a different one. Ugh. It is time to try something new though.

I don’t know how you can stand to wait. I go crazy without seeing them growing day to day.

I think I’m afraid I will accidentally kill them or my broody will abandon them. I know neither of these things are particularly likely, but it could happen! I’m pretty hands off with my flock in general and like to think they can mostly take care of themselves.

Random question, once the eggs hatch does the broody eat the shells and remnants? I assume she does, but don’t actually know! It’s something no one really seems to talk about but I know many mama animals eat the after birth and at this time of their lives really need the nutrition, I would think a depleted broody would as well.
