So these babies are about 4 weeks old and 4 out of 6 of them started developing their combs a week or so ago. My two black ones show no signs of a comb yet but I've been wondering if maybe they are developing a pea comb or other different type. Anyway, supposedly they are all hens but I'm suspecting that probably half of this bunch is roosters. So, since it's still pretty soon to tell, I figured I'd have a little fun with it. So place your bets: which ones will be roos and which ones will be hens just by glance at back feathers?

Hmm, 1 and 5 have female specific patterns so they're definitely pullets. 6 has male specific patterning so that's a boy. 4 is suspicious with that color pattern but it could go either way at this point. 2 and 3 imma say pullet until they give me a reason to think otherwise

Edit: I just saw how pink 2's comb was. Cockerel

1: Cockerel (I see a little comb peeking out)
2: Cockerel (Pretty red comb already)
3: Pullet
4: Pullet
5: Cockerel (I see a little comb there as well)
6: Pullet
Ohhh I didn't notice it until you pointed it out. Initially i was of the assessment that the two browns and the two creamy ones were they only ones with combs. But now I see that red.

Okay so they all have combs already then. Hmmm...

I should add that 2 has been my most aggressive bird from day 1. Yesterday I watched him launch a feet first air attack on one of the browns and that kinda sealed my assumption. I was also considering 1 or 5 because they can be pretty bold as well.

I'm inclined to agree on 2 and 3. In fact, today I was looking at them and they are pretty red.

This one has me on the fence. No red in the comb but maybe that's not a trait in this breed?

These are the others that I was able to snap. The two black ones are the only ones with red in their combs.

I'm not sure what breeds they are though.

What I’ve just noticed in my three week old bantams is you can see their little wattles… I picked up five of them from TSC three weeks ago and four are boys😩
If you can get them to look up you can clearly see it… I do not see it on the only girl! Curly is my only gurly❤️

Right now I'd just assume the 2 redder combed ones are male. Though since you don't know the breeds that makes it tougher. If the two black-ish chicks are part/full Wyandottes for example, they often pink up early, even girls, so that's not an accurate way to sex them.
