Trees at a grocery store
Milk or groceries at the lumber yard
Plants at the Drug Store, Lumber Yard, Grocery Store or Hardware Store

Don't get me started on their lack of knowledge. I don't even want to check the expiration dates on the food.

The top one was the last straw. What next?

I bought a willow tree from Walmart and it is growing like crazy. I bought a pear tree from Home Depot and it doesn't have a leaf left.

The problem with plants from big box stores isn't necessarily that they won't grow, but that because of transportation, mass production and management issues we end up seeing things like the late blight that destroyed tomato crops this year.

No other food products, just mysterious frozen meat.

The plants stacked on shelves four high and the only ones that get sun are the front row plants.
The sales lady (grocery store) who tried to sell me a 36" tall salvia for my 12" hanging basket. I had grown this variety in my garden before (Black & Blue Salvia) and she argued with me because she put it in her pot so I had to pull the tag out and show her the height.

Our neighbor owns a nursery and one of the workers they had to let go went to work for a nursery that supplies the box stores and he was trying to get them to prune properly (to make a better, healthier tree) like he was taught and he was told not to bother for where they were going. He quit.
