I have a still air incubator. what is best? laying eggs on their sides or using the egg cartons When i tried on their side they kept rolling around. Then I tried in a egg carton with small end down and I'm not sure I'm turning them right. keeping the small end down and just sort of spinning them. Help

Hi there!!! I like to lay the eggs on their side and roll by hand. X on one side and O and the other. Reason being is with a still hair incubator you lift one end of the carton up higher than the other, the higher eggs are closer to the heating element and thus are warmer

Fried eggs? I am assuming of course you have a styro bater of some sort, if its a home made then it's a lil different.

I always lay them on their sides and mark them. If the incubator is level how are the eggs rolling? I guess if the incubator bottom is unlevel and not filled to capacity you could put a stick or something on the low side. Maybe you could put them in a ring of some kind or something like that to hold them in place.

The easiest way would be to put them in the carton and just lift up one side of the carton and place a book under it to keep that side up and then switch the book to under the other side mid day, and then switch book again before you go to bed.

i also had the same problem with the eggs rolling, but i broke down and bought the egg turner, i figure if i decide i don't like the lg incubator, i can make my own around the egg turner, and i won't have to worry about turning them, because i hear you have to do it on a very set schedule, and well, i'm honest, i'm just not that good at set schedules lol. the egg turner takes so much thinking out of it.....def. worth the 40 bucks

on their sides, if you think about it in the real nest they are laying on their sides.
