Plagues of crickets and roaches! Help!

My girls absolutely love crickets! Part of the reason why I got chickens was to take care of the bugs before they get to my pool and I had to clean them out. However, since the crickets were night creatures my pool was filled with them.

So, my suggestion is to put a tub water out for the crickets and roaches to jump into. They float, so you can give them to your girls as treats. If it all possible, put the tub of water in the ground to make it easier to catch the bugs.

your chickens free range in that area. If it takes them more than two days to cure the problem, get some new chickens. My son brings crickets over for treats for my chickens. He brings them a thousand or more at a time. In no time they are gone. Within a day or so the chicken egg show the affects of them.

We got six ducks and they go "billing" around in the grass and weeds. At first I thought they were eating grass but really they're stirring up the crickets and other bugs so they can eat them. If they aren't swimmin', they're "billin'"

Get more chickens! With our 27 chicken free ranging flock we have seen a reduction in all bugs, large and small, and toads, small snakes, bees, and really anything the chickens can fit down their throats. They eat it all. I've even heard they eat mice though I have never witnessed it myself. We used to have a very loud chorus of crickets every night, now it's just a smattering of chirps.

Guinea fowl are great for bug control too, if you can stand the noise.

do they like tree frogs or I think some folks call them rain frogs to? I sure hope so! Mine are still young chicks.

Our 6 chicks are in a converted rabbit hutch brooder in our shop. Big nasty crickets have started to invade the shop. What can we do before the crickets multiply out of control? Last spring we sprayed for bugs and I don't want to let the girls out in there. This is our first time with chickens.
