Welcome you guys. This is the best place to learn so so much. There's a bunch of experienced folks here willing to help us novices.Hello! My husband and I are looking to build a coop and get about 6 chickens to start. We wanted to get started last spring, but our baby came 5 weeks early and all planning came to a halt. We are looking at getting a variety of breeds. Since we have a baby, our other hobby is keeping up with his needs! We do have a garden and a large yard we're slowly returning to natural prairie.
My husband works in IT and I am a retired special education teacher now staying home with our baby. We have two rescue cats, and lots of wild animals that go through our yard. We found BYC through google.. We're happy to be here and learn so, so much!
Make sure you build on the "too big" side as inevitably there will be days they will need to stay in coop. I too started with a flock of 6 it's a very manageable .
