That stinks! Shipping does play a role with eggs this time of year it seems. I feel ya on the happiness bit. I got 2 out of 40 on shipped eggs today. I am thinking the eggs are getting xrayed again in the mail. I had lunch with a breeder today and she told me that she has been hatching out her birds because of the poor hatches due to postal error. I am bummed about the mail. Used to be so good but eggs are always a gamble. Sometimes I wonder if the incubator is a problem but I hatch weekly and I get 98% hatch rate

I'm sure they are getting x-rayed. I got eggs a few months ago and out of 30 eggs only 3 developed...none hatched. The rest were as clear on day 15 as they had been on day 1, and I know this seller does not ship old eggs.

not that you guys send eggs internationally... but I know if you post articles over 500grams to the USA there is a $9.00 Security surcharge for their X-raying ....
And that's been happening since you had that printer bomb issue...

You know how the dentist puts a heavy blanket on you to X-ray your teeth ... Would putting al foil around the eggs help?

I used to wrap eggs in aluminum foil until this summer. I will be doing it again with a few auctions and see if that will help the receiver a bit. I have purchased eggs from only trusted people and same people from the past so I know it's not their problem but shipping itself. Aluminum won't deter all xraying but it will help some IMO.

Critter, it happens unfortunately. But eggs are a gamble after all for our hatching addiction

No one is to be blamed with my hatch rate of shipped eggs. I have more in the bator of my own eggs, a fewshipped eggs to bring in some new blood, some project eggs...ok ok I filled up all incubators

Nature takes its course at times with hatching.

I know shipping is a gamble. My last hatch didn't go so great either. But I'll order again. It's the only way i have to get new blood lines too.

Addiction...

good point! LOL.

My bator was empty one day. And i'm already planning more as soon as the chickens hatch. ;-)

Like I said... mail is the only way I can get what I want right now.

It' s better than nothing.

I hope the next go round is better for all!!!

I posted some information on xraying just for those interested. It sure was a read as I was told by a few folks USPS no longer was doing this. It does make sense to be safe but how to make the eggs safer....It seems to be happening lately more than ever. I am with you Critter, it's tough finding eggs near by, better to have them shipped than none at all. For me, 2 is perfect to add some blood but I would have liked more. I was happy that a lady in PA got 90% with her Cot eggs (she must be living in a small city). So it has to be the traveling one way or the other.

The vests/blankets you get when getting an x-ray are made out of lead. I would think if something as simple as aluminum foil would block it they'd be using that instead.

--Clarification--Aluminum foil doesn't block it!
