PLANTED GARDEN TODAY - anybody planting yet?

I am so jealous of all of your gardens. It's been so cold and wet that there hasn't been worth planting anything yet here in Western Washington State. I think all thats growing here in mold.

The weather people think that maybe we will see the sun after the 5th of July. Gosh I am hoping and praying.

I'm replanting my garden. Someone has offered me some "volunteer" tomato plants and I've built some self watering containers. I've managed to pick 1 tomato, 3 squash and 1 zuke. My garden went in late April!!

ETA---It's rain just once in the last 3+ weeks

We have had so many tomatoes that I have made two batches of spaghetti sauce and will make a third batch in a couple more days. I have spent the last couple of days weeding the garden.

I just pulled out some old and dying plants. Then I took random samples from the garden for ph testing. Two areas were high on ph and everything else was ok.

Then I used some cotton seed meal to fertilize the garden.

I have some seedlings ready to be transplanted. Hopefully I will get that far this week.

I still have the old corn plants to pull out. . . . This is my first time with corn. The plants seem kinda of hard to pull out of the ground.

IS THERE A TRICK TO PULLING CORN STALKS OUT OF THE GROUND ? ? ? ?

Ah, man, summer! Anne's picking four varieties of beans now and some large tomatoes are ripening, but the small ones are already ripe. Best of all, I just now went out and picked a loaf of zucchini bread and a gallon of cucumber soup.

I've posted Anne's zucchini bread recipe before, so here's the cucumber soup. Actually it's a drink more than a soup. I've always had it from a glass. Ah luvs it, and I drink a gallon at a time.

Anne's Cucumber Soup

4 large cucumbers – peel and remove seeds
1 quart sour cream... You can use some yogurt too.
2 quarts buttermilk
¾ cup fresh lemon juice
2 t. salt
3 T. dill weed
½ cup chopped parsley
8 scallions

Blend one cup buttermilk and everything else in blender.
Put into a larger container. Add rest of buttermilk. Whip.
Chill and serve.

Hooray for a fun harvest! This is my first ripe White Wonder Tomato... its more like green/yellow. I had it labeled Purple Cherokee and have been waiting for it to show some sign of ripening. Image my surprise when I squeeze it and its soft and ripe!? LOL

I spent this evening weeding my garden. I have neglected my garden for over a month and the weeds and bugs have taken over.
I have some seeds starting in pots and have a few weeks to get the garden ready for fall planting.

I can not believe the numbers of SQUASH BUGS in my garden. I don't seem to have any other insect issues - - - - JUST squash bugs.

Mine is toast! I have one piddly tomato plant barely hanging on. Gathered a couple of zukes and yellow squash but that's about it. I've got a couple of cantalope that look like baseballs. Even my gourds are sad looking. The largest one is about 10inches long. How am I gonna build a birdhouse out of that??!!

Butterfly bushes look great though.

The growing season in Washington is a write off this year. We have grey skies everyday until late afternoon, and no rain. I got a few flowers planted, and some potatoes. I have a lot of tomato plants in the greenhouse. I haven't a clue if I will get a tomato or not.
