Tomatoes love heat BUT they won't set if the nighttime is over 75*

I did put together a kind of self-watering planter. I'll try to take pics of it tomorrow. kind of a redneck version of the Earthbox!

Our lows are right at 75 now - - - guess I won't be getting any new tomatoes. I have aout 30 sitting on the kitchen counter tonight and who knows how many still green in the garden. My tomatoe harvest has been much better this year than last year. It has been very dry, so I have had to water almost every day. I think this has helped because they are getting the same amount of water every day.

I tried some different varieties this year too. I am much happier with these varieties.

Wow... its been HOT lately... its been HUMID.... and mold and mildew are running rampant in my garden. Just lost a couple of squash to mold, some of my tomatoes are getting mildew and looks like blight might be back again too. I'm treating and watching closely.

I'm very bummed... but I'm a fighter of an organic gardener... I'm not taking this lying down! I NEED my tomatoes.

man I dont know what kind of tomatoes you grow but here we havent had a night under 80 in over a month.....check out my maters....

I am hoping to get in my garden and do some harvesting today. I have been so BUSY with other outside honey-do's that I haven't been able to look at my garden in a week. All the below has been taken care of in the past WEEK - - -Wow I am tired ! ! !

I have thinned my flock - - - 2 hens and 2 roos are now rehomed.
I have install water drippers for my blueberries.
I have dug the trench for the piping for the water drippers for my fruit trees.
I have been pricing fill dirt for adding on to my coop.
Dh and I have redone the roofing on the current coop to water proof it more.
I trimmed the hedges - - - took 2 feet off of them and told Dh they would grow back

I have planted some rose bushes in my front island and weeded and mulched and planted some bulbs.
I have done spring cleaning on 2 rooms in the house - - - yeah I know I am running a little late on this chore.

I REALLY REALLY need to get back in my veg garden and harvest the watermelon, cantaloupe, and butternut squash.
I can see them everytime I go out my back door on the way to do another chore.

I, also, need to get the chainsaw out and cut down some trees. Dh wouldn't like that - - - he saw what I did to the hedges just using a hedge trimmer

* Well the weeds are taking over the gardens, I couldn't go outside all last week because I woke up last Tuesday with what I'm pretty sure was sun poisoning... I'm finally doing better today. We have picked a few squashes, 1 zucchini, some sugar snap peas (oh so good!), green peppers, jalapeno and cucumbers... I seen that we have 1 tomato starting to turn red, yay!​

Missred, GORGEOUS and YUMMY looking haul!!!

My tomatoes are going through a tough time. Part of the issue is the humidity here is giving way to mildew. So I was fighting back with neem oil and a milk/water mix... it appears to have helps A LOT! Sadly, some of my tomatoes are getting super tough skin from fighting the good fight to survive. So what were supposed to be slicing tomatoes are too tough now. They are still delicious so I think it is time for me to start blanching and skinning and making sauce, or canning them whole for winter.

Also must take pictures... these tomatoes were all labeled "White Wonder" and I was very excited... until I found out these tomatoes were SUPER dark colored.... an heirloom search is telling me these are actually "Black Prince" tomatoes. If they are, they are SUPER juicy and yummy.

Next year, after last year's blight, and this year mildew... I am going to have to invest in buying all new seed.
