I bought a bag of Tyfon that could seed 1/4 acre for 10 dollors.(i only planted half of it)
i planted it back in feb,and have been letting my chickens graze it for a 2 months now. It already paid for itself in march!! all idid was roto till the ground to about 5 inches and hand spread my seeds around pressed them into the soil with my feet.and watered them, and in 4 days they were an inch tall.after a month they were ready to be lightly grazed for a half hour. now i let them graze it twice a week and as long as they dont uproot the plants they keep growing back rapidly!!
I planted it in two places, soil nutrients affect its growth tremedosly.. the place i planted that grew fast deep green and rapidly was right next to the chicken barn that had been fertilized by the chickens well.
Be sure to chicken wire it off, in the early stages as well as growth and regrowth of the leafs.or you will not be able to get the full use of them.
I have probably got equal to about 4, 50 lb bags of feed out of it..and it will start deing in early june, then in the fall i will plant it again till the winter.
my chickens cannot resist the taste of the leafs!!
But i do not know how benificial they are to the chickens as far as health. Does anyone know?? all i know is that it has saved my some money.
