I have a group of about 60 welsummer hens, they are freerange and do great with feed supplement. What I'm wandering is if anyone has experience with planting various seeds for them to graze on. They have 10 acres to scavenge so I'm sure there's enough for them but I was just thinking as a supplement so they were less feed dependant. I'd prefer it be grasses/legumes/veggies that don't have to be harvested that they can just pick at themselves or minimal harvesting. Any ideas on what type of stuf I could plant? I live in Oklahoma... Thanks!!

pumpkins are ok. You need to harvest them but they keep ok and you just need to cut it in 4 pieces [if you cut in half chickens can turn in upside down]. Some clovers are ok too, chickens will eat the leaves and flowers i guess. I'm going to plant some for my flock

Then, there are some grasses [mix] used in feeding cattle, so i think chicken could feed at it too, when grass is young.
