I am rebuilding my pigeon coop and attaching a roughly 100 sq ft L shaped aviary to it and thinking of getting a few either Red Golden or Lady Amherst pheasants depending on what is available when I am ready.

What would be some good plants to put in the aviary for cover and food options for the birds?

I live in Ontario so am looking for something that is not only cold weather hardy but will still provide cover for the birds during the winter. Though not all need to have greenery year round I would like all to be perennials so I don't have to replant yearly

Here's a great example of someone doing what it sounds like you want to do.

For part of it maybe, we bought sod from an Amish dude who didn't use chemicals on it and didn't line it with plastic or mesh. We put that in the outdoor area of the breeding pens, leaving them area to dust bath too.

A couple of pens grew too tall, so hubby weed-whacked it.

Thanks that is a very helpful thread. Also the idea of a roll or two of sod is a good plan

I appreciate the info. Will post pictures once I'm done
