Plants that are edible For chicken run

Hi, I was curious what could I put in my chicken run To not make it a dirt desert. It's quite large so I could section off areas while something is growing. What weeds or seeds/ trees plants can I put in there to not make it so ugly and barron. Maybe make a little shade too

I used Italian Cypress trees and Queen Palms. Everything else they destroyed.

Will a Palm tree grow in connecticut? It is probably 20 feet by 25 feet we also free range most of the day

Our Queen Palms have survived 28 degrees but I live in FL.

oh it gets -10 here in the winter. sometimes. so I dont think think that will work

Maybe pine trees would work? My chickens don't strip those....I think I have very destructive birds

i tried to grow some grasses in my run. i let them get thick before i let them play in it and they just destroyed the grass. it did take a while though it might be worth it though.
