Plastic coop thoughts

Hi everyone! I’m new around here but we have 6 barred rock chicks. We have a suburban backyard in California and we can legally have them here.
My husband has taken years to ok this project, and he wants EASY for the coop. We got away on the weekends about once a month (when not sheltering in place!!) so autodoor or ability to leave coop open to run important.

When we first decided to go for it, I ordered the Omlet Cube and run. We still like the theory of it but have since learned it’s not an appropriate size for our flock we don’t have it yet, but I will likely cancel my order if there’s no way to make it work.

I saw the snap lock coop online and the large size seems like it might be a good fit, but no run that comes with so we would have to fashion something. We were looking at the sentenial dog kennel (5x10) and thought maybe????

any way, all advice about the easiest to clean and plastic coops is needed!!! We are on a budget, so it’s complex!!

We used to use this shed (8x10). It's probably more expensive than what you are looking at, however, it will last forever! The resin sheds are great, you can cut a "chicken door" in the back wall and have it open to the run. We put some hardware cloth on the windows (for predators). Nest boxes and roosts are all you need to add and you are good to go. We had to move ours and build a real wood shed because the bears broke the doors and ate our chickens one year. If you don't have bears this works great!! They cost about $700, but again, never rot! And there would be room for a few more chickens. Ever heard of chicken math????? Good Luck!

Go bigger on the run. I wouldn't do anything smaller than 10x10, even for a small flock.

Not too familiar with the snaplocks (I've seen photos, don't know details) but going to guess it's smaller than you realize. For 6 chickens you want to aim for 24 sq ft floor space (not including nests) and if you're in a hotter area, ample ventilation.

I just bought the large snap lock coop and put it together. It went together super fast and easy and it's very roomy. I got it for 8 standard sized chickens and I'm putting it in a 10x10 foot chainlink kennel. I built a stand to elevate it out of 4×4 posts so I can build their dust bath underneath. I'll update with more photos once Im done!
