Plastic Strips in coop door?

I thought about using an older very heavy duty shower curtain. I tend to keep things like that because they make great drop cloths! But I want the thickness of those vinyl strips so the plastic door doesn't flap in the wind.
Anyway, I did a little research online. There's quite a few companies that sell plastic/vinyl strip doors and repair materials. Most just sell 6" or 8" wide strips of varying weights, especially for industrial uses. Nobody I looked at sold scrap

though I did email two companies if they would sell some scraps to me.

I found one company, StripDoorsOnline.com, which sold 4" x 24" strips. 5 of them, with shipping cost under $20. I can't buy a pet door for that. It's just the strips, no rail header, but that's ok because I'm just going to nail the strips to the inside of the doorframe, overlapping each by 1".

I'll post pictures when I get it done. Hopefully the girls will figure out how to push past the strips!

That was an awesome run and coop construction. I'm stickin' it in my favorites.

If you wanted to try the shower curtain route, you could cut the strips a little long and sew a weight in the bottom of the strips. This would help keep it from blowing in the wind and possibly be less expensive than the vinyl material you're looking at.

Just a thought!

Yep that's really similar to what I envision, though without the pet door frame. And unlike the dog door OlinR cut into strips, the vinyl strips I'm getting will overlap each other by 1". They're extremely eager to get out of their coop in the morning when I open the solid wood door, so that will help. Also, they're free-ranging in my 1/3 acre backyard and currently don't spend much time holed up in their coop unless it's dark outside anyway.
I think I'll take a few days to nail them all up so the girls will get used to pushing past them. Gradually getting them used to the strips will help the few who don't have their eggs laid by the time I let them out in the morning and want to go back into the coop to find a cozy nest box.

I'll post pictures probably later next week when I get the materials.

I just finished my coop and I did put the vinal freezer type strips that my husband brought home from work thet they used in the truck stalls. It took me pushing them thru the door one time and they were good to go. And they are silkies not real strong. The rest followed suit. It works well.
