Firstly, is the plate at the right height? It is lower in the back. The chicks (arrived today) have spent the day running about the brooder, popping beneath the plate for three or four minutes, then coming back out. The temperature will be down to a muggy seventy degrees overnight.

Secondly, since the day has been quite warm and they do have the plate, is it all right to leave the coop windows open, like so? They're all very firmly covered with hardware cloth inside.

Thanks!

As long as they are coming out from under the plate to eat, drink and play, it should be fine. Appears to be ok height in the pics.

And the ventilation is good. Just make sure it doesn’t cause a breeze on them at this young age.

Nope, they're safe from drafts. Thank you! They're our first chicks. ❤
