The ping pong ball experiment was me. They eventually pooed all over it and buried it in the shavings. It got tossed with the next brooder cleaning.

Now they're getting so rowdy it is imperitive that they get in their coop this weekend. They are 6+ weeks old and have outgrown the brooder. Besides, I have them in the house and their favorite thing to do now is dust bathe in the shavings and stir up the stink.

Yesterday, there was a squabble and one of them popped out of the brooder. She looked about as shocked as I was. For my sanity, they need to be settled in their new home.

I agree with the posts that recommend something to climb on. Give them a roost near a wall of the booder, about 4 or 5 inches high, so they have something to jump on and off from. When mine reached 3 weeks, they were so rowdy I moved them to the coop, along with their heat lamp. Of course, there were no other chickens in the coop, so I didn't have to worry about the little ones being picked on, but the move really calmed them down.
