Playhouse coop / run almost done - YIPEEE! Pictures...

Yes, I'm sure we have raccoons...also oppossums (little egg thieves) and probably all this will attract rats - BOOO!! We are putting chicken wire (doubled up) over the top, and we are burying hardware cloth down 18" around the perimeter. Hopefully this will keep the predators at bay.

Thanks SO much for all your responses - I'll keep checking back :) And I'll post more pictures as soon as we get the new dog run attached - then 5 chickens will have nearly 200 square feet of run space!

It's a flower/planter box, actually. I'm going to put some fake flowers in it when we're done

Looks good! I would join the fence with the dog fence and then wrap it with a smaller mesh wire as coon arms can reach though/go over fences no problem.

One small thing with the floor. I see that the floor base extends past the bottom of the house on the front. I have the other version of the play house from Lowe's and found that if the bottom is not sealed on the inside/outside, any rain or water that lands on the ledge will seep under and soak the bedding! I missed a spot when sealing mine and it got wet in the spring.

I have 6 barred rock chicks (two and a half weeks old), but only have room for five...the extra was an "insurance policy" against possible loss. The "extra" will go to one of my many neighbors who's asking (a lot of people have chickens in our neighborhood) once we are "out of the woods" so-to-speak.

Yes, once they are grown, I'll probably let them have access to that area on days I'm home...there's even one more fence around all of that, so they are pretty well protected during the day.

Oh its only 1 extra ? I would keep it . NOT like you trying to ADD an extra 10 or 15 .

Alright...after reading all these posts (including the quoted one above), we will be going back to Tractor Supply Company tomorrow to exchange the chicken wire for more hardware cloth. I really would be upset if something happened because I didn't protect them.

This sight is really great - and I thank you all so much! I'll keep checking to see if you all have any more thoughts...and I'll post more pictures as soon as we're done
