Every morning and afternoon when I clean out the brooder, I place the quail chicks into the tortoise table. They really enjoy it in there, and start having a bit of a bounce about. I always find it cute, so I finally took the liberty of recording it.

((PLEASE don't comment about the cat, Delilah is 19 years old and has a looong history with birds, don't trust all cats but Delilah has proven her worth for many many years))

Why do they bounce like that? Is the sand hot??
Often when birds get stressed (example being picked up) they will bounce. It doesn’t mean anything, it’s just a survival instinct for them. It also doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be picked up. They can also just be stretching their wings, but the only time I’ve seen my quails do this is after I pick them up, or disturb them in some way. It could also be them being excited. Either way it’s nothing to worry about.

They are very cute. Thank you for sharing :)

I find my lot only do this when excited or placed somewhere new. They've always done it, here's a previous video of them
