playing outside for a few minutes??

I put mine in a rabbit hutch with 1/4" hardware cloth sides, and the bottom taken out so they could scratch.
They were still hard to catch, but not impossible.

We let our chicks out at 1 and 2 weeks of age for about 1/2 hour. It was in the high 80's. We did not pen them, but stayed very close. They seemed afraid to be far apart from each other, and didn't go far. They mostly stayed on and under our steps of our back deck. They did love the fresh air though!

i've got chicks about 4 weeks old and for the past few days we've been letting them outside for 4-5 hours. It's been 75-80 degrees around here and it was plenty warm enough for them (no unhappy chick peeping). They caught a bunch of little bugs and ate some greens!

We made a makesift chick tractor to keep them contained.
A large wooden crate with square cut out of one side, some mesh wire, and a few well placed nails made a perfect and inexpensive coop and run for a few small chicks!

i know it is colder up your way, but we (in indiana) have had a few nice days. i have 2 week old chicks and yesterday i took them out for the first time. they loved it. all 8 of them stayed close to me and did not get too far from each other. they enjoyed it so much that today i let them in their coop/run. i did move the heat lamp out there so they could snuggle under it if they got cold from being outside.

just make sure you take water out with you!

good luck. it is so fun!!!

ya at my aunts house we took them out at about a week and they were fine. they were out there for almost the whole day.

I started taking my girls out when they were about 3 days and 5 days old, it was pretty warm and sunny down here. They did fine, I would sit out there with them and they would stay right near me as if I was their momma. It was pretty easy to catch them and have only recently been a problem to catch and they are 7 weeks old.

Mine went outside for the first time today they are 17 days old they are loving it Digging in dirt having a bath

Question for all you chicken experts
smile.png
My chicks are between 2 and 3 weeks. I've been letting them out for a couple of hours here and there. When I did, I've noticed that their poop has changed. It's runny and much more stinky. Is there a problem or is this normal?

If it is orangish brownish really stinky and runny it is just cecal poop. They poop that poop every so often. It stink SO bad!!! It is totally normal
