i had heard the law was going to change sept of this year. it's next year??
and that's awful about the dogs. hope the man goes to jail.
yeah, it is suppose to be in 2008. my father in law and i were talking about it. i don't know why the wait. i am sure it is some government thing. or maybe because this is our governor's last year. and she is not running for re-election. i don't know, seems animal cruelty should stop here and now.
and i saw on the news tonight micheal vick plead "NOT GUILTY" and will have a trial on Nov. 26th i believe they said on CNN with Anderson Cooper tonight.
You know it would be truely sad if he wasnt GUILTY. I never understood why everyone is so quick to jump to conclusions and on the bandwagon. Its akin to someone accusing a teacher of being a pedophile. Even if hes innocent, he will lose his job, be slaughtered in the media and generally have people suspect him for the rest of his life.
Doesn't take much to ruin someones life anymore.
Remind me again, America Land of the Free? Innocent till proven guilty unless the media tells you otherwise right?
Okay I went to the site and put my name on the list. Celebrities think they are above the law. They should be proven they aren't especially for animal abuse as severe as this. Let me take that back. Animal abuse at all.
We have a man that lives out here in our area and he was arrested and put in jail for starving 72 horses and 2 donkeys. 2 horses were found dead on his property. The live animals were removed and are awaiting adoption. He didn't get all this time Vick is getting. He is in jail awaiting his trial. He isn't out earning money.
And that he has traveled to pick up and/or deliver dogs from his breeding kennels for the use in dog fighting. Supposedly there is video tape and audio on this along with a paper trail
Animals sometimes fight in the wild, but that occurs as a last resort. They avoid it by marking territory, not crossing paths, and sizing each other up before deciding to fight. By placing animals together where they have no other choice but to fight is not right as they have not by choice exhausted other options to avoid confrontation first.
For example, if two pits by chance pass each other and pick a fight that tears them apart without being provoked by owners, fine, they chose to fight and that was their nature to do so. Their fight was not directly instigated by the owners of the dogs. But if these same two pits, or any other dog for that matter, are put in a room to fight without safe retreat, that is wrong since they did not choose to walk into the room to do such a thing.
For example, I've had two young roos beat on each other for a good half of the day. They tore at each others combs and wattles and became bloodied. By the end they were both so tired that they just collapsed holding onto each others necks. Did I break it up or force them to do such a thing? No. They chose to do it themselves. Either roo could have retreated and ran hundreds of feet away from the other to a safe place but they decided not to. There is a difference between animals fighting and animals made to fight.
At least from what I've learned at the university, animals will try to avoid fighting at all costs as it is generally riskier than it is worth. They do fight though when it comes down to it. But that is their choice and the wild is a cruel place where injuries go untreated. If they die they die and the surviving traits are passed on.
I also think animals need to be caged for their or the safety of others and that is different than from being caged for production and profit. Keeping chickens in a run for their own safety with adequate space is great, keeping 8 in a laying cage for 24 months without the chance to be a chicken is different. Both are in cages but the quality of life is different. There are so many degrees to the picture that there is no true black and white to any story.
In this case, of course the media will spotlight it. But... it is one person that is in the public eye. How many thousands of other animals are abused the same way in more laymen level places that the public eye is not glued on?
Animals fight all the time in the wild its not a rare occurance and not a last resort. Herbivores fight as a last resort, predators do it naturally. Lions hunt lions point blank (they will kill anything that moves). Wolverines hunt just about everything and will attack it. A pack of wolves will gladly take apart a weaker pack, let alone other animals. It is in some animals nature to fight. Others it is not, I am not saying oh lets get 5 pit bulls and watch them tear a hog apart.
You can look at it the way I do. In the future you will have a choice. Watch animals go extinct or watch them be used for entertainment, fur trade (horns, bones, organs), pets or for sport. Or you can be like the majority of animal rights activist that believe all animals should be free.... Ask the Gorillas how free they feel as they are being hunted by both sides of a civil war!
Just to make MYSELF clear. I DO NOT FIGHT ANIMALS, never have never will. I personally do not see a point in it. I do see a point in keeping diverse genetics and bloodlines going. So anyone else have any ideas on how to save the animals? Don't say zoos, they don't work that well plus the Animal Rights Activist HATE THEM!
Wendy and Coyote you both proved my point, you say that supposedly there is a video or report. Have either of you seen or read it? I was just saying hold off on opions and castings of guilt until you know for sure.
Judy thats not just celebs that anyone with the money to pay bail, that is our Justice System at work don't you love it.
Bubba
PS Cruelty to me is purposely inflicting pain on another or animal. Fighting two animals bred to do just that is not cruel in my eyes, thats the way of the world (Since the dawn of time) Do you think cutting a tree down is cruel? Do you think taking an apple from a tree is cruel? Don't get me started on that line, I have made Vegans drop thier salads and walk off after I explained how I feel about plants. Plants are living beings, react to stimuli, grow, bear off spring and react to changes in season long before we are aware anything is up. 100 Years ago people thought animals felt no pain. 50 years ago people thought reptiles felt no pain. 40 years ago people thought fish felt no pain. 20 years ago people thought insects felt no pain. We all know different now don't we. When will we pull out heads out of our a**es and realize that plants feel pain!
