I ordered 50# of food grade DE from my coop and they sent me Celatom diatomite is it the same thing?

I am so new at this I dont want to do anything to my chickens that will hurt them They have been both a provider and a source of comfort to me that I can nurture and raise them.

No, do NOT use what you were given.

DE is used, in a bastardized version of Celatom diatomite, in pool filters. It is not food grade DE and is toxic to animals and people.

Your "supplier" ordered the pool filter stuff.

Return it, get your money back, check out the "Where am I? Where are you?" link to see if there are any locals that know a supplier closer to you.

If there isn't anyone, do a BYC search for DE and find an internet supplier.

I did a search on the web and agree with previous post.
Do as she suggested and get rid of the stuff. Food grade DE is awesome for so many things but the pool filter stuff is toxic.

Best of luck getting the 'real stuff' soon.
