Spiny softshells are actually considered a delicacy in many places. My babies are so sweet tho, I don't know how anyone could bear to eat them. They eat out of my hand and when they were smaller they would let me pick them up. Oliver still does, tho pancake, my female, isn't exactly on board with that. She expressed her dislike when I last picked her up and almost took off my finger. If she wasn't so beautiful and well suited to pond life she'd probably be the one to go...lol sorry Pancake!

Oh wow! Thats a little scary that she could have bit your finger off! I once wanted a pet turantula! The ironic part of that is that I im scared to death of spiders xD they sound really sweet I love taking in injured or disabled animals there they walk, swim or fly lol

Well she couldn't have actually snapped off my finger since they don't have a "beak" like most other turtles and tortoises, but boy their jaws are strong!

I know I always want "special needs" animals... I can't bear to know they might be culled for a disability that doesn't cause them pain...poor Oliver i don't know if he'll ever find a home...sob

Aweh yeah I know me to have you tried turtle forems or sites that deal with turtle adoption or just your local animal rescue?

We have contacted a tortoise/turtle club that adopts out turtles and tortoises. They have not yet responded. We are checking turtle forums, but we haven't posted yet. I'm hoping we'll get a BYCer who wants a turtle...
