Please allow me to vent about freecycle...

That method works great for us, too. (And we've "scarfed" some things that way, also, in the past. No poor college student is ever too proud to dumpster dive for things like end tables and lamps...

It's surprising the things that some people throw out that are easily fixed with a screw or two and a fresh coat of paint).

Yep, we had to take the same approach! When you tell people that you can't hold the item I think that it adds a sense of urgency and they usually come right away to pick it up! Same as the curb alert. That works too.

I gave up on my local freecycle last year.

It just wasnt worth it and honestly some of the people that actually would show up were skeevy.

Now all the out grown clothes go to the Salvation Army.
Books get brought to my childs pedi or given to her school.
Large furniture gets sold via craigslist or put out front with FREE on it.
Anything else we pack up and take to the flea market and sell.

I thought about listing it as a bunny cage but with this time of year and there are a lot of people who think a bunny is a good easter gift for children...and I dont want them thinking that this cage will be good for the easter bunny..I have listed right on it that the cage is not suitable for a bunny

Ive posted it before, but Im so happy with my best FREE craigslist find that Im posting a picture of it again. Yup, it a 24 x 40 ft office building!

LOL I not only got that one, FREE, but I also got a second one, too. It is even bigger, 24 x 60 ft, but I discovered that it wouldnt fit around the bend in my driveway, so I gave it to my next door neighbor! I cant tell you how happy he was!!

I guess I just couldn't stand to continually deal with people calling me and lying about coming to get something. I take everything to the thrift store and donate it.

You can always take it to goodwill or hospice - you can get a receipt for your taxes that way. it is amazing how much the government allows for each item on your tax deductions.
