help i am new to this but can someone please give me some advice as one of my female pekin ducks has a issue she was right a day ago and now cant seem to walk well
ok so we have a dam which is iced up and i found her down near the dam and not moving to where the other ducks were so i went and picked her up and she could not stand on her legs and i tried to put her down on her legs and she puts her legs behind her stretched out and then one spasms, after a little while she starts to move around again for a little bit and then drops again i left her with then others as she was moving a little better and went down to put them away in their shed and she cant move again. i have brought her inside and put her on some dry straw and gave her water and food.Not interested in food but is drinking :) now she still is not sitting properly if i get her up and put her on her legs. can she have frostbite on her feet? could the cold ice have done something to her legs? her feet are warm oh i did also pull a thistle out of her foot.

@nimmitabel farm

She may be egg bound. Get her into a tepid bath, that she can float in and do not leave her alone. She may be able to float comfortably - that will warm her up, and may - if she has an egg stuck inside her - enable her to pass the egg.

In any case it should warm her up and improve her circulation.

Ducks can indeed get frostbite, but her symptoms sound to me like a pinched nerve. Have the drakes been very busy mating with her?

thank you for that, my husband reckons that the boys could have hurt her buy being on top of her.

hello @Amiga i have had her in tepid water for about half an hour and she was enjoying it but her one leg stayed flat at the back of her and the other down standing i did try and relax her sorer foot down on the sink bottom and it did stay there but then went flat back beside her.Her pooing in the water was fine did not seem like she had a egg there.i took her out and dried her a little put her near the fire and she just sat there with her legs flat out. she was not standing at all when my cats got close to her she just hissed and sat there. i dont know what else to do to help her :(

@nimmitabel farm how is your duck this morning?

Hi, My duck was having leg problems because she hurt her foot, I gave her a bath with some epsom salt it helped a little bit. It helps them to relax, so maybe try to give her an epsom salt bath see if that helps. I hope she gets better :).

The thing is to keep it up till healed at least 1x a day and not let them drink any of the ES water because it's also a laxative. How is your duck now?

Welcome to BYC!
