Hi,

I have my first hatch in the bator and I candled tonight. A few of my eggs have a dark spot near one side of the egg, vertical to the air pocket. It almost looks like a long air pocket going up and down the egg. When I candle on the "dark side" you can't see through. Also, one of the eggs has a black looking outline of a circular shape around a peep. Also, some of the eggs seem to be developing faster than others. This is day 8. Also, I have been turning them twice a day, but today 3 times, what do you do?

Also, I'm having a prob with my thermometers. I have the one that came with the bator, and one I paid $12 for at wal-mart that has humidity and temp. The wal-mart one reads about 2-3 degrees lower than the bator one. I've been averaging between the two, and think I will pick up another one tomorrow. the humidity reads about 50%.

Any insight here?

Usually the only thing you can really see at day 8 is the vein network or a pinkish hue throughout. That is the sign of growth I look for. On white eggs, the embyro might be evident as well. But from my experience, brown and other colored shells, you don't see a whole lot.

The thermometer that came with your bator is probably wrong. I would trust the Walmart digital more and get closer to the temp with that one.

Thank you Jody.

I could actually see movement in the eggs last night. I could see quite a bit, with my LED in the dark. Hmmm.... don't know how? None of the eggs are white, except the little bantams.

I have brown eggs too...it is more difficult to see through but the lighter ones of mine are quite transparent...I can easily make out movement. Good luck with your hatch!

thanks Tiffany!

Quick ?? do you have any idea about what to place the probe of my digital thermometer on to put it at "egg height"?
