I've been around Polish of nearly every color for 3 years now, have bred them in that time too, and have quite the handfuls of them, plus I've raised them in quite a few different scenarios too. And I've also raised a lot of them through many different rough weather situations, had many of them go through some pretty tough times. . . Trust me, there's more than 1 of those answers.

I don't know anything about Polish, really. I know for sure some of the things listed are true, but I can't tell which are false.

Well, the real truth resides in the breeding. I have indeed known some weak, dumb, and skittish Polish, but that doesn't make them all so.

It's like calling RIR's as a breed skinny, super-egg layers, and aggressive.

I'd say the hardiness, the sexing most definitely (the ONLY breed difficult to sex are Silkies, and even then I'm sure some Silkie breeders can spot any male pretty young) and restricted vision are the other false ones. Sexing may be hard for some, but not for the experienced chicken sexer. Hardiness, - I've had two girls survive the rainy woods in the winter out here for weeks and return alive, plus mine have tolerated plenty of frost, snow, rain, wind, etc even with drafty or poorly built coops and came out fine, and then there's the lifespan too. . . Never had eggbound issues or the sort. Restricted vision is only with females that have very well sized crests, mostly WCB's too since their crests are different than most bearded varieties, Laced ones especially. There's always poor quality ones, most males, and about half the good Laced ones out there with perfectly good vision. The only time I need to trim my Polish's crests are when the super-rainy season (winter) comes in. Then it's just cruel for them to not have clipped fronts. All my boys handle it fine though.

And remember, I live in a climate where we get over 120 inches of rain a year, and summer days with temps over 80 degrees or even at 80 degrees are pretty rare. We got 3 this year.

Also, my Polish rooster's run is mostly in the shade in the winter, sadly, so it's almost always cold for them. Since we're far north, winter is pretty shady when it's sunny. Which, sun itself is almost non-existent in the winter.


My Polish I can sex at 3 months old. They don't crow or lay eggs til 5+ months old.
