I couldn't agree more! People think they are doing themselve and the animal a favor by rehoming the 'sweet little critters' that are so "fluffy, cuddley, cute" and fail to realize (and many times deny with every bone in their bodies) all they have done is passed the buck and relocated a predator problem for someone else to have to deal with. This is one subject that gets my dander up! LOL

I just read an older post where someone in a New Mexico city was taking their trapped animals "south on the Rio Grande" to release them. But wait, we live south on the Rio Grande.

Catch the vermin in a live animal trap, then put said trap in plastic garbage bag, then tie bag around tailpipe of car or truck. Turn on ignition and run vehicle for 10 minutes.

As far as raccoons, they are nocturnal so if the chickens are in at night, or if their chicken run is covered from the top, there should be a problem.

OK, not that I disagree, but what about those of us without guns? I have heard there are preds in the area but haven't experienced them yet. What do I do when they hit? I'm pred-proofing to the best of my ability but shooting them is NOT within my skill set.

My only experience with traps is going to the hardware store and getting mousetraps and rat traps.
