That is horrible parenting. I went to TSC today to get a new bowl for my ducklings, since they out grew the other one, and there was livestock gates around the chick bins with a sign to ask an employee to see the chicks... so I went to pay for my stuff and asked the lady what the chicks did to be jailed and she said a kid picked up one of the chicks and squeezed it... and it "popped".....

probably because some parent didn't bother to supervise their child.

Awww! I don't know why they don't put them behind glass like they do some of the birds in some of the pet stores. You have to ask an employee to get them out if you want to handle them. Especially if the employees can't watch them all the time.

This year, my favorite feed store has actually gone that route.

And here is an open bin, opened by the employee for a lady to pick her chicks.

You poor thing,me I don't care whos kid it is if they are being little brats I tell em to knock it off.A child throwing a fit does not bother me cause I know a parent is laying down the law and the child is reacting.Its the parents who give in and expect sociaty to deal with their child.
I am glad alot of feed stores are protecting the chicks,now I just wish parents would get real with their kids and not parent out of guilt.

If feed stores intend to stay in the chick selling business, they will all be taking steps in the future, it seems to me.
Chicks put out in bins for the public to have free access? That ship has sailed. Bye bye.

I can't tell how how I dred these stories in the Spring---I have purposely stayed away from TSC again this year for this very reason. I know my self and how I'd react-I dont need to go to jail for the first in my life because I sprawled myself over the bins of chicks refusing to allow the children to touch them-That and If I met a mother like that and she said to me what she did to you...Oh man- My bigger right arm would have taken on a life of it's own....ok now that I have expressed what I can visually see myself doing...I am swearing myself off and away from TSC for next year too!!! I feel sorry for all you folks who have to witness these horrific things and who get treated so badly by saying and doing the right thing! I mean-I watched my 12 yr old DD with my birds yesterday and she is so gentle and loving to them all-even the old biddies who loath her! ( only cause they were resuces and loath me too) haha but they all get treated the same way-with love and gentle hands....I think my children would seriously cry If I took them to TSC to witness that cluster of ignorant parents and children...
