Please explain the genetics of a Splash Silkie

In all honesty, I would suck up the loss and just never deal with that seller again. Even the quality of her whites are lacking.....none look to have vaulted skulls, have hawk shaped heads, really long in the back, and all are missing the feathering to the mid-toes. If she has been breeding silkies for even a few years, she should have a general knowledge of color genetics.

No, I don't think that is fair, either. If you went to Target or Walmart or Home Depot or to the grocery, or to a cabinet or flooring store and ordered something specific, and the wrong thing was delivered and possibly installed, they would not let you keep the incorrect merchandise. Instead they would replace it with the correct merchandise. In this case the merchandise was eggs, but the untimate product was chicks. Replacing with the correct chicks, one for one is reasonable. Replacing the chicks with an equal number of eggs is not an equal trade, especially since a number did not hatch, but neither is giving an entirely new set of eggs and allowing her to keep the chicks.

I honestly think it is up to the purchaser and the seller to reach an agreement that is mutually acceptable.

No life is not fair. Me new to silkies and buying eggs I agree with destiny_56085. After you pay shipping or time and gas driving back for more eggs. I would look at those baby's real good. You could get better babys than that if you just move on. Don't look back and don't get those eggs again.
If her splash are that good go for it. I do understand how you feel.

Well, here is what she replied when I asked how many eggs she was reimbursing me and that we had to take into account the fact that I have fed these chicks she wants back, for over a month. I also reiiterated that I had purchased 6 splash and 6 blue eggs and that's not what I received!!

You would get the three eggs-plus one for insurance-in return. While I realize you have fed and taken care of the chicks for a month, I have also fed and taken care of the parent birds for years. This is the first time I have ever had a complaint and my eggs are in high demand.

Just let me know what you decide!

So...I'm going to cut my loses and keep the chicks and just find someone else with good quality eggs. Is there anyone on here that currently has Splash and Blue or Black eggs for sale?

You however purchased eggs in good faith and they were not what you ordered, and certainly not a likely genetic fluke. If you had hatched one white, it would seem likely that her flock has a pair of recessive white carriers; but for all to be white, not splash? And for the blue to be partridge?

I definitely wouldn't deal with that breeder again. Just accept your loss and try again

. I've got a blue/black/splash pen with a few hens that are laying right now if you're interested. I will tell you though...I hatch a lot of blues from this pen, so I definitely can't guarantee what color of chicks you'll get, but they will be blue, black, OR splash. Just pm me if you're interested. Here's a pic of a couple of splash chicks from my birds:

I appreciate your input. My friend was under the impression that splash or blue wouldn't throw white (but like I said, she hasn't been doing this long).....and I don't have the slightest idea

I guess my next thing would be to find someone else that has splash silkies and get some eggs/chicks from them? I just liked that she was an hour away and I could pick them up instead of having them shipped.

I have a splash rooster about 6 months. ( I think). You can have him.
