So turns out I got a roo,not a hen. Trying to find a female chick, and it isn't working.

What are your votes for another breed? I would like a docile good layer, preferably with minimal "headgear".

I will have a RIR,SLW and an EE (in addition to my two silkies).

What would you get?

Of all the breeds I currently have, the Barred Rocks are the most friendly and are always the first to come up to me and don't mind being held at all.

DG, I only have the one breed right now and I love them. The only reason I'm expanding is I need some broody hens and my girls aren't cooperating. LF brahmas rock!
P.S. Have you looked at Henderson's Chicken Chart?
And ETA: You incubate don't ya? I'd be glad to send you some fertile eggs. They'd be mixed colors, but still all brahma. Free to you because I feel so bad about your BO.

I've been looking at the chart. So hard to decide!

I really only have room for one additional chick. No incubation here (yet!).

Thank you though-very tempting offer!!!!

They are just real calm. Nothing seems to bother them. They do very well in heat and cold. The heat part is hard to imagine because they are so big, but it's true.
Until all my girls started playing like they wanted to broody, I was getting 11 eggs out of 14 hens a day.
