Thank youLooks like you have gotten a lot of great advice on here already. All I can offer is encouragement. We also did a mallard hatchling rescue almost exactly a year ago. What I have learned is that mallards have some perseverance. Our little guy has had quite the traumatic life and he is strong and healthy and stubborn as ever a year later. He imprinted on my oldest son when he was little and has decided that our Cayuga is his mate. It’s very hilarious to see the relationship. He greets her in the pond and she quacks for him when flys off. They are the cutest. I’m sure you have many lovely memories to made with this little one.![]()
And now she's breathing through her mouth sometimes. I don't understand what i did wrong![]()
Thank you. I'm just really frustrated and sad i can't do anything for her right now. I really wish she could live and get better and grow into an adult duck. I hate how i found her when i'm still just a high school student. I wish i found her 10 years later when i would probably be a vet. And thank you for the name suggestion, i'll definitely consider it.Please don't blame yourself or think you've done anthing wrong! You've saved this duck-child's life up to this point. It has health challenges which probably explain why you even found it in the first place. It wasn't strong and healthy enough to keep up with its mates. You've given it a chance it wouldn't have had without your care and intervention. So you've done good. It's not out of the woods yet... but if it doesn't make it, don't blame yourself! You're giving it a chance it wouldn't have had without you. But you can only do your best. Time will tell if that's enough. Okay?![]()
