We have a two-week-old baby chic that is sick. We are calling her "Hope". She is mouth breathing and sounds congested. She makes whining noises and sneezes all the time. Currently she does not want to stand but I think it is because she is exhausted from being up all night trying to breath. She runs around with the other chic's when in the brooder, she lays down with them, but when she breathes her whole-body moves like she is struggling.
Last night we gave the chic 0.25ml of poultry cell in hopes that it would help her. She did not fight us at all and took it again this morning with no problem. We also gave her some water through the same syringe, which she gladly took. She still sounds so congested. My daughter was able to pull some stuff from her mouth with tweezers a bit ago but I'm not sure what it is. At first, I thought it might be gapeworm, but I am not that familiar with it. Can someone tell me if this is what it is? And if it is what I should do?
