Thanks everybody!

In the house right now I have cornmeal and eggs so I'll just put that together and get to the feed store ASAP tomorrow.

When I was growing up we never bought chick food. My grandmother always saved leftover cornbread and broke it up to give to them. Of course after about a week they usually got turned out with the mom so don't know if that would be good for them long term or not. I ran out too for six chicks I bought at the feed store. I took a little bit of cracked corn a cup of dog food and two cups of oatmeal blended it all in a old blender. They seemed to love it. I've also boiled eggs and chopped them up to give to them. Hope this helps. I would think that cornmeal would be okay for a while too.

You could cook and cool some grits...that should be easy and they'd love it...
If you do have layer food, i've just picked out the oyster shell and blended it in a coffee grinder... for a day or so should be fine...

btw...how will they come if you can't even get out to the store?

I will probably get the call around 7:00 in the morning then say a prayer and get in the car to get them from the PO about 10 miles away. I can't think of any other way to get them to my house.

just drive slow and careful and bring a box with a towel over a hot water bottle for them to cuddle on the ride home...
no feed stores in between you and the post office...darn...
