Just an update to let you know how it went and to say thankyou - you were right on all accounts.

He healed pretty quick - no treatment and his eyes opened fine within a few days Could only put up with his crowing for a day before trying him with new girls and is very happy with his new harem of 3.

The other girls accepted a different roo without issue - a wild jumbo with 9 lives He had actually escaped the large pen and had been living free in the garden for a week (hiding in a crack between the shed and water butt) before I managed to catch him when he came into the house.
