Please help: beloved RR is lethargic and stands w/eyes closed alot

Thanks Chickengal...but alas, it's been downright freezing here for the past few weeks although yesterday our high went into the 70's...so it's not the dreaded Florida heat here yet!

A lot of chicken owners use Wazine. I use Eprinex. It's a form of ivermectin that is zero-withdrawal, which means you don't have to discard the eggs. It is a pour on. You can use 4 to 6 drops on the skin of the back of the neck. I use it on my chickens every 3 months.

Good luck with her!

Thank you Sjisty...I will check with my feed store to see if they sell the brand you recommended. Should I treat all of my girls, not just the one who is sick? I've never wormed them and honestly didn't know it was a must-do...thank you again!

I would treat them all just to be sure. It's also good for mites and lice.

For my 2 cents. Last time I had lethargic chickens they had a respiratory infection. I treated with Tylin and kept them in my basement where it is warmer (this was a month or so ago). They recovered in 3-4 days.

I can tell you this the guy at my feed store who has chickens , when I asked about wormers told me to put bleach in the water to worm them. I have never seen his chickens before I wonder if they are still living.

Utterly alarming what some feed store folk tell people

Thank you all for your guidance, words of help and reality checks...sadly, I had Lola euthanized humanely by my veterinarian. She wasn't eating at all, she had lost weight quickly...we will miss her terribly...and her big, beautiful brown eggs...Sweet Lola...may you rest in mealworm heaven in peace...even though I know you were "just a chicken" we all adored you!
