YOUNG BUTTON QUAIL CHOKING. im holding him upsidedown right now. he cant breath and i cant see anything in his throat. hes getting cold and breathing less please help me

I see this was posted a few hours ago. How is he doing? For future reference, never hold a bird upside down.

He survived after nearly five hours of holding him upside down. In this case holding him upside down was necessary since birds don't have diaphragms his only hope was gravity doing the job to dislodge the food. Standing upright caused him to asphyxiate and pass out but thanks to holding him upside down he was somewhat able to regulate his breathing enough to stay alive until the item dislodged.

I'm glad that worked for you, but holding a bird upside down (at all) is dangerous as the contents from the bird's crop may come back out of its mouth, and in an attempt to breathe the bird may accidentally inhale fluids into its lungs at the same time. Next time grab some small rubber tubing, meltdown the end and try to dislodge whatever is in its esophagus.

I can attest to that. I killed my bird who had sour crop by holding her upside down. ☹

I'm so sorry this happened to you! It can be a lifesaver to keep an aspirator bulb on hand for situations like these, they are inexpensive and easily found where baby supplies can be bought. For very very tiny birds, an eyedropper with a large bulb is better.
