please help!!bleeding bird!!!

I was cutting was my cockateil's nails and i cut one to short and it won't stop bleeding.

What should i do?

If you don't have quick stop or a septic pencil, you can hold the foot in cornstarch till the bleeding stops.

Please be aware that this is a serious situation. Use cornstarch or flour and really press it onto the bleeding area. Hold it there with a very firm "pinch". Resist the temptation to clean it off to check on the progress. IF it bleeds through, pack on more without removing any. Don't worry about how yuckky it looks, it's meant to stop the bleeding, not be pretty. Good Luck

thanks but i got it to stop with a fragment of a bandaid and medical tape.

for future cornstarch is the best, no pressure form you needed, just keep packing the stuff on untill it stops jus tlike the others said.
i dna from the nail for sexing and have always used cornstartch for any bird ive had to (or accidentally) clipped a tad too short

I always make it a point to have the blood stop on hand before I start clipping toenails.
I've been grooming for years, and am very comfortable with nails, but there's always that time when somebody has to jiggle around, and you get a bleeder.
Cornstarch, flour, anything like that will do.

In my experience, and on recommendation from my avian certified vet, I switched from cornstarch to cayenne pepper (powdered) to help stop bleeding wounds on small animals. The cayenne does not burn/sting in the wound (like other styptics do), helps stop the bleeding in the same way as cornstarch, and has some antifungal/antibacterial properties that can help keep wounds clean. Just for future reference!
