hi! my broody silkie has been making really weird sounds so i called a good friend who has more medical experience than me and she says that she has something stuck in her crop. we have given her warm watered down grits, force fed her water, and rubbed her neck. she is by far the sweetest out of the flock and my favorite out of the flock and i really dont want her to pass tonight.

can you please give me some suggestions on how to help?

thanks!

Is she choking, or is the crop full?
Is she uncomfortable, in stress?
Tell us more for a better diagnosis.

Broody hens can make strange sounds, are you sure there is something wrong with her? Does she eat/drink,if she has something stuck in her throat, she would not eat or drink.

she has trouble breathing, but she was eating and scratching in the dirt when i locked her out of the coop. she just wouldnt eat food or drink water. she hadnt in a day do i force watered her. she doesnt look like shes in stress. shes just making pecock like noises and i know thats a noise they make when they have something stuck. thanks for replying!

she has been broody 4 times before and i know this is not a broody noise. her crop is full, but i cannot get her to eat or drink. i am almost positive she has something stuck. the only thing is that she would scratch and peck at the dirt to get grit when i locked her out.

please pray for my hen tonight :) i am really wanting her to make it

Sounds like she has impacted crop, did you read link i sent? She will become dehydrated, she may be already. Be careful forcing water into her,you don't want to aspirate her(get water in her lungs).

OK they eat during the day, and go to bed with a full crop.
It will empty overnight.
If the crop is full, I would not try to force her to eat.

Unless she seems in distress, I would leave her alone and see how she is in the morning.
Silkies are from another planet, and everything they do is different.
Let us know how she is in the AM.
