Yes, it did. I lightly pressed with a clean swab until it stopped bleeding, and checked it several times more for a few days after that to be sure it didn't start bleeding again. Fortunately the chicks had a red heat lamp above their brooder so they couldn't see it to pick it open.

Well, I got home from work today and found him lifeless. What a shame.

Thank you all for trying to help.

Aloha,

Troy

So sorry to hear that!

I have a roster that has a similar problem, his vent is covered with what seems like dried poop he seemed to be in a lot of pain so I took him into the house; washed off and soaked his butt with water. Then I tried to pick the "poop" off of him and it worked for a while until when I picked off a piece and it was hallow on the inside and filled with what seemed to be white pus, his vent started to bleed so I stopped and washed off his butt again(his butt stopped bleeding almost instantly). He is about a year and a half old, what should I do?
Thank you,
~Ken

It sounds like he had a puncture wound that got covered over with bedding and has now abscessed. Trim away all feathers from the area then debride it until you see pink flesh. oozing blood is okay. Bleeding is not necessarily a bad thing, it is the bodies way of flushing a wound. Open the wound up to the air, no matter how greusome it is. Its better to find maggots in a wound than pus. Clean it with a dilute betadine solution or even some saline or salt water and then put a drying agent on it like wonder dust or blue kote or even baby powder if you don't have any wonder dust. Keep it open and dry, no salves. Even if you have to make it bleed again every time you clean it, keep it open and let it granulate in from the inside out.

I went back and checked on him to find that he had pooped about 1/2 pound and he was happly struting around!

All that seemed to be wrong with him has been fixed, I guess his vent was just cloged...
Im going to keep an eye on him though...
