PLEASE HELP, chick infested with fleas!

Now the chick that I have seems to preen a lot and and I saw fleas and also what looked to be mites crawling all over it. I give my own birds permethrin 10 baths but never seen a chick with it.

The chick also cries a lot and I fear it is calling for it’s mom.

It isn’t eating ether.

I saw the chick eating and it did drink a ton so that’s a great sign! I just put the permethrin with a Cotton ball under the wings, near the vent and behind the neck and tried to remove the eggs with a flea comb but unfortunately they are really lodged in it’s fluff and the chick is too small

Especially the placement is horrible right above the eye. I find it a little concerning that the chick was wobbly right after though. After the chick is dry I’m going to remove the bedding and put paper towels. I did see flees before but after I put the permethrin I saw a ton of mites coming all to the surface.

Do you have photos of the chick?
How old is she?

Does she need a source of heat? She may be crying because she's a little chilly, hungry and is infested with bugs.

Are the fleas stick tight fleas or?

You mention you see eggs in the feathers, can you get photos of those? Are they mites or lice?

Work on hydration. I'd give this chick electrolytes in the water. If you have Poultry Nutri-Drench give her a direct oral dose of 3-4 drops twice a day.
Encourage her to eat. If she's not eating chick crumbles, then try offering them as a wet mash.

She looks to be about a week, no egg tooth and not many feathers yet.

She also finally stoped crying the only heat she accepted was a lamp, when I put a heating plate I guess she didn’t like the darkness maybe?

I’m not sure what fleas I only saw them when I first got her but none came to the surface when I did the treatment like the mites did.

I see way less bugs now there’s definitely still more but I have been keeping everything very tidy and have Been cleaning her and the tote with permethrin 10 and will continue to do so until I’m sure there’s none left. She is also eating and drinking. I also put hydro hen in their water.

Here is the pictures I was able to get that showed the eggs best. It is very hard to see because it is a very dark chick but when I brought it outside you can see better.

Cute Chick!
I'm glad she's doing better now that she has some heat.

It is hard to tell if those are lice nits or what. Hopefully those will fall off with the fluff as she grows.
I'd continue to work on getting rid of them like you have. If you have Permethrin based poultry dust, I'd dust her, working the dust all the way to the skin.

I use dust on the birds, liquid/spray on/in housing.

Give a bath of dust/ash. Spread ash in all the are. Chickens remove their pest themselves by taking dust bath, so provide that to them. Those pests can't survive in dust. Even the eggs dries out with the dust.

I was thinking of getting putting a dust bath in there with some first Saturday lime. I assume that is safe as well? After just the first treatment her discomfort dramatically decreased crying stoped she actually slept and ate normally. Today I’m going to give them a full warm bath and put her outside to dry because it is 90 degrees and very humid so I won’t have to worry about them being cold. Once I’m sure the bugs are gone I will get them some friends and hopefully they will both thrive after that.

Thank you all for your responses it was very helpful! Especially the cotton ball idea that worked very well as a less stressful approach then a full bath a blow dry for the first treatment.

You can also use food-grade Diatomaceousearth. It's pretty cheap and it really works.

If you want to give her a pan of dirt that would be good. Just a bit of soil from the yard with a plug of sod is great. Peat moss and bit of sand works well too.

FSL needs to mixed with dirt, not given straight if you are going to use it is a dust bathing area.

Chicks that tiny may or may not dust bath, mine usually do if they have a Mama showing them or there's several chicks, since this one is alone, she may not.

Yeah I knew there was another option I just forgot the name so thank you! I did not know you can get a massive bag at tractor supply for the same price as a smaller FSL. I waste that stuff like no joke on coop cleanings and on mixing with dirt baths so I’m so happy I can get something much larger for the same price!

I just got 4 chicks from tractor supply, I’m just going to quarantine them first and hopefully I can put them all together and the little chick will be happy without disgusting bugs and new friends ❤️.
