PLEASE HELP!! Chick not doing well.

it is possible what you call prolapse is nothing more than the yolk sac being not fully absorbed the most common reason is impatience and intervening as a hatching has not allot in its system for a prolapse to occur i perceive the later . normally a prolapse would occur in adult hens subject to over production of eggs or over exertion and stress

I am not sure about the yolk sack but assume that is what happened. He was doing much better until he suddenly wasn't. Not sure what happened. The temp and all other conditions were correct.

We have four more eggs with developing embryos. I'm afraid I may have "shrink wrapped" the little fellas by opening the bator. I have learned since then that many keep the bator locked down for a while before and after hatch day.

It breaks my heart as well. We were so ready to welcome these little lives. :(

Maybe you didn't. When mine hatch, I take them out. So, I open and close the incubator fairly quickly. But, I keep the humidity up pretty high during that time. Anyway, I had pretty good hatches last year. Hoping for the same this year. Last batch only had 1 out of 12 eggs, but I think they sat too long before I put them in the incubator.

I am hoping for success with another hatch. We just started today. A local farmer gave us 15 eggs, and he has many that free range. Lots of colors and sizes. Hatch day will be like Christmas! Well, hoping so anyway. :)

Any tips? They would be greatly appreciated.

Be sure to turn them. Keep the humidity up when they get close to hatching. I made my own incubator, so I add really hot water to the incubator when the humidity starts to dip. I just use hot from the tap.

Thank you!

The incubator I'm using doesn't have a humidity gauge so I'm going to try to purchase one today. I've just been making sure the reservoirs were full inside and adding water as needed.
