I've posted this before and nobody has had any ideas. I have a 10 day old silkie chick that I had to help hatch. It zipped, but never popped out, so after 24 hours of being zipped i pulled the shell apart to help it out. It popped right out without any blood or any apparent problems. It hasn't been walking or standing well. I thought that it was spraddle, so we did the bandaid treatment from day 3 on.

Well the bandaid fell off tonight, so we put another one one, since it still wasn't standing on its own. But now it even seems worse. I don't think it is spraddle because it seems to be a problem with only one leg. It's leg will get twisted when it tries to move around...almost like it doesn't have any feeling in it.

Should I try splinting it or is there anything else I can try? I've given it to my mom and she is so attached. I feel terrible because I don't know what to tell her to fix it and I'm afraid it's not going to make it. It just seems to be getting weaker...despite hand feeding and whatnot.

Do you put any suppliments in the chicks water because if you don't it might help. I use quik chik which has all sorts of different things in it which help cure and prevent many different problems with young chicks. I really hope your chick will be alright. I know how hard it is to have a chick that youv'e grow attached to that isnt doing well. Just know though that if things dont work out that you did the best you could. Good luck

I hate to be the bearer of a discouraging story, but something similar happened to me too. I have a similar issue, I took in a baby chick for free since it just looked like it had curled toes. well I have had it for just over 2 months now, and the toes were never correctable (properly put the shoes and tape on and such, as well as poly vi sol without iron) AND the hock joint on the bird was twisting. We now have him splinted and has hobbles to try to keep his feet together, but he can not really move on his own all too well. He kind of hops and flaps frantically to get to his food and water. We have been doing all we can for him, but we are losing hope that he will ever be able to get better and are consideringwhether or not to put him down or keep fighting, because he is such a sweet guy but we do not want him to suffer either. Best of luck to your guy, just make sure to correct it early!
