I have a weak chick that I have been giving vitamin enriched water every 30 min for a few days with a eye dropper. She is in her own brooder to avoid the pecks of the other chicks. She has gotten a lot healthier/more alert and can now stand on her own. She will eat on her own now but will not drink from the water dish. She seems to only want the eye dropper. I’m very tired and don’t think I can stay up with her to make sure she gets enough fluids. I’m afraid she won’t drink on her own. I’ve tried dipping her beak in the water to show her where it is but she freaks out and won’t go near it. Please help, any advice is greatly appreciated.

Great way to make them learn is by taking there beak and dipping them into the water. They should learn to drink after that

Maybe try putting her back with the other chicks? They are usually pretty “monkey see monkey do” type animals. Maybe if she sees the other chicks drinking she’ll want to do the same thing :)

My chicks like seeing my finger in the dish and they try to get my finger but instead they drink water, I’m also struggling with one chick as they have issues with their crest (their heads tilted) but they like drinking out of a syringe! (If anyone has any ideas lemme know) I hope your baby learns to drink out of their water dish soon! ❤

I have never had to deal with that problem, but I agree that dipping their beak in the water always worked for me. Also, after a chick or two figures out something, everyone else seems to learn it too. I would suggest putting your lone chick in with the others. Chances are she will learn to drink like her sisters. If not, you can try other interventions. But don't kill yourself with feeding every 30 minutes. Maybe that chick needs to get a little thirsty in order to learn to drink like her sisters and not depend on you. Best wishes.

I got her to start drinking on her own last night, she is doing much better! We have determined that she seems to have a problem with her leg and sometimes has some trouble getting to the dish by herself but she will now dip her beak in by herself! Thank you for your comment
