Hi all,

Hope you're all having an amazing day! I am in such a dilemma on to how to stop the bullying within my flock. One of my hens called Hazel fit in perfectly with the rest until she got attacked by a fox, she did survive but is now blind in one eye. There is one hen that constantly bullies her, pecks her, and even mounts her! This has been going on for 6 months. I've tried all sorts of tricks to stop the bullying including putting hazel in a separate runner where they can see each other but no contact, making loud noise when the bullying happens, using bullying glasses and more but nothing seems to stop the bullying happening, i thought time will help but no. What should i do? really upset about this situation, any advice would be appreciated, thank you!

Have you tried isolating the bully away from the flock?

I have the same situation with my bully. I read where another person was in our same boat and she resorted to a squirt gun. Every time the bully went after a hen she squirted her. I know it sounds mean, but I'm about ready to try it. Conditioning her to think this unpleasant thing happens every time she bullies just might work. I'm at my wits end on this one.

I tried it but it didn’t help at all, also hard to manage as I would have to be out with them all day to monitor. If you do it, let me know if it works, best of wishes!!

Since it’s been going on so long I wouldn’t think things will change for Popeye. I would give her some peace and rehome the mean girl. I hope it works out (I’m sure it will). Have a Merry Christmas 🐔🎄
