Hi all! I have had my cockatiel for 14 years now, got him when he was a baby. Today I clipped his wings and nails and cleaned out his cage. When I went to pick him up to put him back he flew into my patio door. It has happened loads of times but this time he started bleeding from his nose/ beak. Not a lot and he is still using his beak to move around his cage. Also still whistleing and talking. Should I be worried? Is there anything I can do for him?

It looks like he either cut the cere, (area around the nostrils) or possibly cracked his beak. Clean it up, and take a close look. If it is the soft tissue, putting a little pressure on the spot should stop the bleeding. If it is the beak, some styptic powder like Quikstop should stop it, if you don't have that, use cornstarch or flour and a little pressure for a bit. It doesn't look bad, and I think he'll be fine.

I cleaned him up and he did not cut his cere or crack his beak. It seems to be coming from under his cere. I tried to use flour to stop it but by the time I got it ready, the bleeding stopped. Thanks!
